Prepare for Exam

Obtain a Credential

Before you apply, please read the online handbook for the credential in which you are interested. The handbook includes detailed information about the credential and PMI policies and procedures. It is helpful for you to familiarize yourself with our processes before you begin so that you know what to expect and what is expected of you.

Note: The application processing time is longer for applications that are mailed to PMI.

The Application and Eligibility

You need to apply to take the examination and are required to submit an on-line application detailing how you meet the eligibility criteria. Your application will go direct to the PMI head quarters in the USA for verification.

You will need to verify that you are a practicing Project Manager and that you have a minimum number of years experience (with or without a degree).

The time it takes you to complete an application depends on the amount of detail necessary for that credential eligibility.

It can take 10 days or more to document your experience, complete the credential application and submit it online. Please note that your application may be audited.

Applications should be submitted at least 40 days prior to the exam date.

Once your application is accepted, PMI will send you a "Confirmation Number" and instructions on how to register for the exam locally. You are required to register to sit the exam at a venue of your choice within 12 months of receiving eligibility.

Although PMI will e-mail you reminders during the process, you have the responsibility to schedule and sit for your examination within the one-year eligibility period.

Exam Registration

To register for the exam follow the directions provided on your invitation letter. This letter is sent to you on acceptance of your application by PMI Headquarters. The directions will indicate what process you need to follow to sit the exam, what testing facilities, dates and times are available.

You must quote your PMI Confirmation Number and state where and when you want to sit the exam when provided with the available options. This information is supplied by the PMI Qld Chapter.

Refer to the following link for details on the available Computer Based Test centres http://www.prometric.com.  You can register to sit the exam during standard working hours on most days. Your referenced testing centre will be able to provide up to date information. In addition to the on-line testing centres the PMI Qld Chapter sponsors two paper based examinations in Brisbane each year. These generally take place in June and November.
